Trying to read an intimidating book…

A couple weeks ago I was reading about Under The Dome by Stephen King and was like hey I want to read that! So, I hopped on my computer and bought a copy (no bookstores)….the book arrived larger than what I am used to. Sure I could have looked it up online to see how big the book would be, but the thought never occurred to me. This book is over 1000 pages long. It is pretty much the size of my head and I am scared. How am I supposed to start this book?!?! I really hope I love it because the premise is so cool, but looking at it gives me a pit in my stomach!

This book is so long that it is available in part one and part two format. (Please, someone correct me if I am wrong!)
Goodreads describes Under The Dome like so:

“On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when — or if — it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens — town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing — even murder — to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.”

See what I mean? Doesn’t that sound great? I love reading scenarios that evoke psychological responses! Tonight I am going to pick up the book and begin the first chapter. Who knows how far I will make it……. hopefully the whole way.

1000 pages, here I come!

That is a big read! It looks like you can buy it in two parts. the first part is still an intimidating 656 pages. I am curious to see how well you enjoy this 🙂 I think my largest read was The Stand. Worth it, but took some time.
